My mom was the cornerstone of not only our immediate family, but our extended family & friends.
My newest quilt Cornerstone was supposed to be my mom's Christmas gift. I created the quilt using Buttercup Blooms by Gerry Robinson. Buttercup Blooms is a beautiful collection of antique floral prints in blues and grays with a dash of gold and sage. There are 25 prints in this collection, giving you lots of inspiration. The low volume prints in this collection are absolutely dreamy.
I was still working on it and sadly my mom passed away on December 31st. She will be missed by so many.
Growing up our house was the place where mine and my siblings’ friends would all end up. So needless to say she touched so many lives in such a positive way.
This is a video tribute to her… grab a cup of coffee and little something sweet (even better if it is Chocolate ) …
My mom liked that I could write and speak in a limerick and rhyme
So, this is for her for the very last time.
Mom, carol, Mary carol, grandma, gram carol, aunt carol, Mimi, we all knew and loved her by a different name
Regardless of how you called her we all agree she is in the hall of fame
Married to David, April 23, 1960, they become husband and wife
And together they started the journey of a fulfilling life
44 years of marriage, dad left here first
Mom continued knowing how to deal with the best and the worst
Dave and carol leave a legacy of family and friends
And to recap it all you would think the story never ends
Three Children, Lisa, David and Christine, eight grandchildren, and
9 great grandchildren all stars in her eye
And each and every one of has a special tie
We asked the family to share things they recall
And my job is now to share with all
No specific order to follow, hopefully some laughs, tears and a smile,
And memories that will last for awhile
Lisa the oldest lived as moms neighbor
Which was nice as they always could do each a favor
Lisa and mom had different skills that you may find funny
Mom could not sew a button and Lisa sews for money
Carol raised her children with the Church in her mind
Expect us always to be courteous and kind
Christine being the youngest had a tendency to skip
And to Carol she would just sass and lip
Carol was checking on an early Sunday morning
To see if Christine listened to a stern simple warning
She Quickly found Christine at St Taco Bell
And she let her know change your ways or risk
Going to hell
Carol loved spring and summer, to garden and plant flowers
and hers always grew and bloomed like she had super powers
Summer was about baseball and time in the pool
Growing up in house with no air, you learned to stay cool
Pool season was official when carol did annual cannon ball
Which really just looked like a real graceful fall
Dave and Carol did get to travel and explore some of the
Great sites we all know
but there was special place she did like to go
They took the entire family to Disney, the place of Mickey and ears
And it brought them great joy as she talked about it for years
She was the cool grandma and would ride all the rides
She even went down one of the water park slides
There is a special place at the end of main street,
It is one where most families would conger and just meet
Mom hit a curb out of no where
And flipped dad from his wheelchair
Dam it Carol, Dad s words for day, but luckily everyone was OK
After dad past mom made new friends that would last
She spoke of them often and how they go to lunch and play cards
And how they would visit each other and sit in their yards
Mom loved to read and was incredibly smart
So, when it came to trivial pursuit her team was the one you wanted to be a part
Gram Carol / Mom loved Christmas the time to celebrate with joy
She loved watching the grandkids open a new toy
She loved her Christmas trees and had one every year
And when we take this year’s down it will be done with a tear
She loved all her grandchildren but had trouble keeping them straight
Which caused her to show up for the wrong dinner date
Mom had a special relationship with each grandchild and loved them all the same
She was sharp to the end, she called them all by name
Mary Jen was the first and had her special time
Their love and affection aged like a fine wine
Jessica was second, the first of Lisa s three,
A lot like Her mother as the apple falls not far from the tree
Grandma took on the task that few grand children would ever ask
Teaching her how to drive and how to stay alive
MaryBeth recalled grandma had a rule,
Many would think this a special tool
If you ever get in trouble, I will always come get you
And never even ask “what did you do”
Then comes Kaitlyn, the one with the special smile
She always wanted to stay with gram for an extra awhile
A boy show ups, John David, breaking the girl run,
Doctor in the family she was as proud as the beaming sun
Madison’s next, youngest of my three dancing girls
Gram never missed a recital of spinning and twirls
Christines, Oliva, the athlete, softball is her game
Gram would watch and yell her name
A pop fly went wild and heading toward gram with alarm
But Oliva took the hit and almost braking her arm
Olivas sister, Reese a shopper has a real special bond,
That Gram fixed from above like she had magic wand
You lose a wallet full cards and money
And only gram can say I got it honey
Mom loved to shop with any one and all
She always was quick to respond when she got the call
Grand children, daughters, and friends many partners to choose
She was always happy no matter who she did use
She did have a special place in her shopping cart
For her daughter in law Janet who she loved with all her heart
As said earlier, 9 great grandchildren she knew all by name
And she would be proud as we can field a team for family baseball game
My talks with mom where typically on the drive home
I would call the house or catch her on her iPhone
I see her name and number, and this will be hard to delete
But someday in heaven again we shall meet
There is so much more I can tell you about my mom and dad
Many days of happiness and a few days of sad.
The family has fond memories of Dave and Carols life
And none would of happen if they never became man and wife.
